Kawasan Falls

A three-tier turquoise waterfall fed by natural springs in Badian. The water is genuinely that blue-green, not a filter trick — it's the limestone bed reflecting light. You can canyoneer down from the upper falls through a series of jumps and slides for about 1,500 pesos, and its one of the better adrenaline rushes in Southeast Asia. The bamboo rafts at the base pool are worth the 500 pesos.

The water really is that colour — turquoise from a limestone riverbed, not a filter. The three-hour canyoneering descent through cliff jumps and river slides that ends at these falls is one of the best adrenaline experiences in the Philippines.

Overview A three-tier waterfall in Badian, southern Cebu, fed by natural springs that produce water so turquoise it looks photoshopped. It isn't — the colour comes from the limestone riverbed reflecting sunlight. The main falls drop about 40 metres into a wide pool where bamboo rafts float under the spray for 500 pesos. The canyoneering route that ends here is where the real action is.

The Story Behind It Kawasan has been a local swimming spot for generations but gained international attention after canyoneering operators started running guided descents from the upper canyon around 2012. The route follows the Matutinao River through a series of natural water slides, cliff jumps, and narrow gorges — dropping into pools and scrambling over boulders for about three hours before you arrive at the falls from above. The local guides know every jump point and which rocks are slippery.

What You'll Experience If you just visit the falls, the walk from the road takes about 15 minutes through a path lined with vendors selling coconut water and fried bananas. The main pool is beautiful but gets packed by midday. The bamboo raft experience puts you directly under the falls — you'll get absolutely hammered by water pressure and it's louder than you'd expect. The canyoneering is the better experience: about 1,500 pesos including guide, helmet, and life vest, starting from the upper reaches and ending at the falls. The highest jump point is around 15 metres and completely optional.

Getting There Badian is about three hours south of Cebu City by bus or hired car. Most canyoneering tours include transport from Cebu City and start early morning. You can also stay in Moalboal, which is closer and has better diving.

The Experience

Canyoneer down the river through cliff jumps up to 15 metres, natural water slides, and narrow gorges before arriving at the turquoise pool. Or skip the adventure and float on a bamboo raft directly under the spray.

Why It Matters

The most popular waterfall in the Visayas and the endpoint of what many consider the best canyoneering route in the Philippines.

Why Visit

The water colour alone is worth the trip, but the canyoneering route elevates it from a pretty waterfall to a genuine adventure. Its one of the most fun half-days you can spend in Cebu.
