About Gorkha Durbar
The Gorkha Durbar was the palace and fortress of the rulers of Gorkha, and the birthplace of Prithvi Narayan Shah, who from the 1740s onward conquered neighbouring states, including the Kathmandu Valley kingdoms, to forge a unified Nepal. The Shah dynasty he founded ruled until the monarchy's abolition in 2008. The palace complex, with its temples and Newar craftsmanship, survived the 2015 earthquake and has been restored.

This was the home of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the king of the small hill state of Gorkha who, in the 18th century, launched the campaign of conquest that unified the many petty kingdoms of the region into the single nation of Nepal.
