A Window on the Himalaya

Nagarkot has long been famous as a viewpoint for the Himalaya, easily reached from Kathmandu, and the modern view tower gives an elevated 360-degree platform from which to take in the panorama. On clear mornings the horizon fills with snow peaks across several Himalayan ranges, from the Annapurnas in the west to the Everest region in the east, with the world's highest mountain said to be visible on the clearest days. Sunrise and sunset here are the great draws.

The Experience

You climb to the tower's platform, ideally before dawn, and watch the sun rise over a horizon of snow peaks stretching across much of the Nepal Himalaya, the mountains glowing pink and gold, with Everest reputedly visible far to the east on the clearest days. Sunset is equally rewarding. The ease of access from Kathmandu and the breadth of the view make it a favourite mountain-gazing spot.
