About Patan Museum
The Patan Museum was created in a wing of the old royal palace, the seat of the Malla kings who once ruled this independent city-state. A model restoration project transformed the historic building into a modern museum opened in the 1990s. Its collection celebrates the bronze-casting and metalworking traditions for which Patan has been famous for over a thousand years.

The museum occupies the Keshav Narayan Chowk, a courtyard wing of the former royal palace of Patan, sensitively restored with Austrian assistance in the 1990s. Its galleries showcase exquisite Hindu and Buddhist statues, ritual objects and gilded metalwork, the products of Patan's centuries-old reputation as a centre of Newar craftsmanship.
