About Masmak Fortress

Masmak was a centerpiece of the Al Rashid administration before Abdulaziz’s raid. Its architecture is purely Najdi, utilizing sun-dried mud bricks and tamarisk wood. After the 1902 conquest, Abdulaziz used it as a military base and later as a storehouse. The restoration in the 1980s was a turning point for Riyadh's urban planning, as it was one of the first major efforts to preserve the city's pre-oil architecture.
